Pale Demon (The Hollows, #9) - Kim Harrison Rachel's road trip to hell (or the ever-after) is thrilling, funny, touching and irritating. The story begins a bit slowly, and gains momentum, until you just can't put it down.

Trent's tight-lipped secretiveness was the most irritating aspect, and it made me want to reach in the book and shake him! However, it was also fascinating to learn more about him, and see him up close and personal throughout the story. That was one of the reasons I loved this book, those close-up glimpses in their character and their relationships with each other. Rachel's sarcastic wit and the gang's banter had me laughing at times, punctuating the intense action...and the action was fantastic. Seemingly impossible situations that somehow they overcame or muddled through, leading to an intriguing, but very satisfying end.

A few books ago, I had lost interest in Rachel and the Hollows, but can't stand not to "finish" a series. The last couple of books were really good, and this one just falls under fantastic. I can't wait to pick up the next one! Thanks to Ms. Harrison for a world filled with characters that are becoming even more intriguing!

Thanks also to Net Galley and HarperCollins for providing this ARC. This is one book I will be picking up at the bookstore as well to keep in my permanent collection!
